1. Fabrication and making skills - 6/10
I think my fabrication skills are a little hap-hazard and messy and whilst I tried to buy appropriate materials, the artefacts that I made do look a bit cobbled together. I think if I was planning to show this piece in a gallery I would need to think more carefully about making it more aesthetically pleasing, having said that I do think that the photographs produced from the artefact have come out really well.
2. Contextual Analysis - 7/10
I think my idea definitely works well in the context of the 3D hybrids module. The act of producing photographs of the physical object and light sources creates a clear hybrid connection.
3. Synthesis Of Etude Material In Final Work - 8/10
I have very much stuck to the theme of photography throughout my early studies and I think it has stood me in good stead for learning from the processes I have been through. The light etude was the main study that I have taken and expanded and I think it's been a reasonably successful journey of logical development.
4. Critical Analysis Of Subject - 7/10
As art goes I think light studies is fascinating area of exploration and I think there is a lot that can be done to produce interesting pieces quite simply. The only downside I can see to creating light art is the finding an area dark enough to get the best results, if the room has too much light coming in the photos don't really look very good.
5. Creativity, Originality And Innovation - 6/10
I think my method of producing light art has been fairly creativity if a little raw. In the originality stakes it's not the most original idea but then again it is nearly impossible to achieve anything brand new. I think the idea of introducing the fan to the project has made it more innovative than if I'd pursued the mobile route, if only for the danger it has brought to the creation of the art.
6. Application Of Theory To Practice - 7/10
My theory into practice is slightly restricted by the lack of hard stand for hanging my artefact from and as mentioned before I think I would probably change a few other things too. However, the idea that I had has been put into practice and the photographs are successful.
7. Technical Development - 7/10
I think my project has progressed in a logical and technical manner. I specifically wanted to choose a idea which I would enjoy working on so that my ideas would grow and change in an organic way, rather than trying to force the technical development. Whilst the LED's worked perfectly well the only other change that I would make technically, would be the connection of the lights to the batteries. It would be much easier if I had come up with a way of being able to switch the lights on and off rather than having to unstick them each time for fear of the batteries running out.
8. Rationality And Realisation - 8/10
The project has been realised successfully and I am very pleased. I am happy that I chose this area to study and whilst physically the artefact falls short of the aesthetics that I wished to achieve the overall artistic outcome has been great. I think if I tidied up my construction methods this would work well in a hands on gallery space.
9. Organisation And Time Planning - 8/10
My organisation has been fine and I have had no problems achieving what I set out to achieve. The only regret I have is not having a hard physical stand to hang the fan from. This has been my biggest obstacle and with more time I might pay someone to build one for me.
10. Presentation And Documentation - 8/10
My documentation is all complete and I am happy that the blog method of recording the process, it meant that I could do one step at a time.
